Project Horizon (Amiga)
Project Horizon is an 8-way scrolling top down shooter sci-fi game for Commodore AMIGA.
The player is a NASA astronaut on the Moon (1977 - alternate timeline) who is find himself in a war situation.
Current version-date is: 2026.02.26.
System requirements:
- HDD
- ECS or AGA
- 2.0Mb ChipRam (at least 1.5 free)
NOTE:
- The game is under developement at the moment! The downloads contains a bugfixed version fof the game. If you find a bug in the game don't hasitate to write in the comment section! :)
- The HDD version contains Music.
- The finished game comes with a Map-Editor (not included in the demo). With that you can create new maps for the game.
- The game uses standard ABK (gfx or sound bank) used in AMOS. Combined with AMOS You can create or add new gfx to the game. Basically create a whole new shooter game!
- The engine itself does not require 2 Mb chip ram (nor HDD), so if you create a new game (depending on the amount of gfx and sfx you use) it can run even on an OCS machine from a floppy as well.
-The final version will include all the source code, the tools and editor for free.
-In Kickstart 3.2 and Workbench 3.2 there is an issue with detecting CD32 GamePad buttont (generating continuous input sinal). In that case please start the game with the "ProjectHorizonOS32" executable from the games folder.
- The ADF version doesn't contain the cinematics and the music.

Excellent new game for the Amiga. The aliens are good at dodging. I added it to my video along with other games released in February.
I wondered what happened to this... Instant buy. What a great intro!
Am I missing an assign though for the menu? I downloaded the full and the 3.2 fix and after the intro and your logo it says to "insert menu disk and press fire." (And there doesn't seem to be a way to gracefully escape from there.) I didn't think I would need to do anything for the full version but I didn't see a readme and the startup-sequence just launches the game.
Amiga 500 2mb chip Vampire V2 and OS 3.2.2.1.
I've checked the uploaded content and i can't find or reproduce the issue.
If you copy the HDD version to your Hard-drive that should be enough.
if it is a separate partition then the game will start based on the startup sequence. In case of OS3.2 you should run the game with the "ProjectHorizonOS32" executable. (there is an issue with it regarding the CD32 controller). In that case you should modify the startup sequence by renaming the executable to "ProjectHorizonOS32"
If you copy the game to a simple folder you can start the game with the same aproach.
normally with: "ProjectHorizon" executable.
in case of OS3.2: "ProjectHorizonOS32" executable.
the "ProjectHorizonAros" version is only for the standalone windows version. There is also a kick-rom issue that using free AROS rom.
The zip file "ProjectHorizon_Fix" is only for that people who do not want to download the whole 100mb again and again for fixing a previous issue in the game. If you use the larger file(s) first you don't need this (it is allready contains the latest fix/executables).
The only way that i can think of when the game ask you for disks is that you maybe copy some files from the floppy version or start the game from the adf.
I guess my original download I copied over to the Amiga was corrupt somehow. I redid the whole thing and I was able to get to the menu.
I don't think the menu is very clear at the moment.
I kept trying to highlight START and hitting fire only to get stuck on a black screen with no loading activity.
It took me several failed attempts to realize I guess MUST enter a level code right now? (It might be nice for these development releases to have CTRL-C enabled to break out.) I went looking in the folder and found the file with codes. By this point I was tired of messing with it since I'm on NTSC and I have to do the early bootmenu for PAL each reboot. I'll come back to it later.
From the menu if you hit fire button the game will start.
You don't "MUST" to give a pass-code. If you do not have one the game will start at the last available/played level (level 1 by default).
About the "blank screen":
It usually comes when you (in case of OS3.2) start the game with the "ProjectHorizon" executable and not with the "ProjectHorizonOS32" executable.
It is becose for some reason (completely beyond our control) OS3.2+KickRom produces a continuous input button signal as if a CD32 controllers third (yellow) button was triggered continuously. The blank screen comes when the game (level) starts and at the same moment tries to show/hide the map (that is what the third button do), but it can't becouse the button leading it to an endless cycle.
The support for CD32 controller was a feature asked by the community. There is no possible way to detect if there is such a controller present or not (to solve the issue inside the game).
The solution should be: As i described before, please start the game with the "ProjectHorizonOS32" executable. And (in case the game has its own partition) modify the starup sequence if necessery .
No other modification is necessery!
I did copy ProjectHorizonOS32 from the fix download and run it from Workbench. I guess it is possible that the archive was also corrupted somehow and doing it again will solve the issue like it did before.

Is the adf version without music?
As the description says above, there is no music (nor intro) in the adf version.
- The music is streamed from hdd, so too large and slow for floppy.
- There will be a simplyfied version of the intro soon (Image sequence).
Do you know if the lha version works on theA500mini?
The game was tested on multiple real amigas and emulators. It is not tested on "theA500 mini", but since it is an amiga emulator itself i assume that the lha or any other versions should work on it (actually they are all the same version).
The xml file for whdload on amiberry emulators, of which the A500mini is one, does have your demo listed but not the full game. I'm not quite sure how they get the information for new games though. https://github.com/HoraceAndTheSpider/Amiberry-XML-Builder/blob/96d6f1b976454682...

Our "Bad Apple" demo also somehow made it onto Coffin OS and i see somewhere that StarDustWarsDC is on the "Amiga Game Selector".These things will find their way sooner or later...

Version 2.0 is a bogus version by the traitor Ryan Scott, this info can be found in the first paragraph of the V2.15 docs.
The version posted on Aminet is also bogus since it is just a demo.
So almost any version (99+%) of the Amos or AMOSPro_TURBO_Plus.Lib V2.15 has been cracked, spread and is used without my consent and is not even mentioned in the credits!

Ok I understand that planning is not the same as really doing it, but it can lead to misunderstandings like this. I do not even know who is writing it (you or the "traitor" you mentioned). There is so many versions. I don't want to go in that direction.

First I want to apologize and sorry to get you into this situation! I can assure you that the misuse of your library was not intencional.
I called it a "claim" becouse i have to look up for some information (not about the rightfulness of your plugin, but the time-dates on our side, how things lead to this point). I could have called it "infringement" but this was the wording that is usually used (not to degrading the meaning of it) and the download has been removed as you asked. It took me a while to gather my thoughts on the matter.
to clarify:
- We was not aware that this is a cracked version we use. The plugin was (still available) on multiple sites available. There is no label on it that it is a "cracked version". This is not an excuse, just the unfortunate fact of the situation.
- The version in question is (as i see correctly) from 1996. In the files containing your product there was only a street address (of course there was no email then). We started our game project somewhere in 2019 (7 years ago). At the time we start to use your plugin our coder tried to reach and contact you trough the internet. As i remember there was no answer for the letter we write to the address we found then. From that point we don't take into consideration to write a physical mail to a much older address.
- I don't want to deflect responsibility here either, but, as things runs for the Amiga (and with retro-community in general) today we can't track every softwares legality. Yes there are a lot of piracy. Literally everyone who are downloading software (of 30 years old utils and games especially) are considered as "pirate" in that sense. There are no stores sellig those products anymore.
- We do not encourage or support anyone to commit any illegal activity (software piracy). Please note that our Amiga games do not force anyone to pay for our products, and never was a "price". Donations are optional.
I can understand what it means to working on something and put a hell lot of time in it, we do the same. You've made a good plugin. We all thank you for that. It is hard to track a software so old, it is easy to lost controll over them.
To solve the situation in good faith:
How and where can we buy or "licence" your product legally? There is no information or store we can find it anywhere with your plugin! I see that you have an ITCH account as well but the plugin is not listed under your name.

I see that the game makes use of the of my AmosPro_Turbo_Plus.lib V2.15 extension without my consent and even worse, it is the cracked version!
So all Turbo Plus commands and functions have to be removed immediately!
Elaborating:
I, Manuel André, worked thousands of hours coding my extensions and created a special protection routine, using Amos/Pro internal routines, that took 8 years!!!! to crack!
Would any of you accept that one uses your hard work for their project without asking or trying to reach out to you? And besides, they entice users to pay for their illegal work!
last Update yesterday will not work for me. After Intro start the First Level no more. The Card will Blink randomly. My Stystem A2000TX Olga 030/50 FPU, 2MB Chip 128MB Fast and ZZ9000 for Scandoubler. The old Version Runs Fine. I Hope for a fix. Greetings
I encounter same problem. I tested a version from this evening. My system is A500, 2MB Chip, ACA500Plus, ACA1260, WB3.2.3. The previous versions worked fine (until level 5).
The bug has been identified! The help is on the way! :)
For some reason 3.2kick+os automatically and continuously triggers the same input signal of a CD32 controllers yellow button, even if you do not have one.
It is an unfortunate OS Vs CD32-gamepad issue, but there will be a fix soon.

It should be fixed by now.
The problem was/is that the map switch is connected to the third button of the CD32 controller. It is an OS issue. For some reason OS3.2 +kickrom produces a continuous input signal for that button by default, and that is what not allowing the stage to appear (basicly there is a rapid-fire triggering the map On and Off).
There are two solutions:
- There should be a "ProjectHorizonOS32" executable in the compressed files. You start the game with that and it should be ok. In this case you cannot use the CD32 controller (only without the yellow map button).
- If you run an AmiNet JoyTest. This will disable and "reset" the third joystick (continuous input signal) button error after use.
For the sake of simplicity I suggest the first point.

Now: The map indicates 19 destroyable mission objectives and the NPC must also be escorted to his own exit, there he will give you a key and the exit will be open. Fixed version is uploaded.

Unfortunatly I‘m stuck at Level 5 (Heimdall). Do you know what needs to be done to open the exit? I killed all Alien bubbles but that seems not to be enough.
If there is a task on the level it can be three things. 1. destroy mission objects marked in red on the map. 2. get the keycard. 3. accompany the npc to his designated place to get a keycard.

Although I have alredy bought the game five years ago, when it was a demo, I have re-bought it today (which I did for first time ever) as I think EBS really deserves some money for this epic game. Can you limit filenames to 31 characters? There's a problem with long filenames when burning the game to a CD for CD32. The safe file length for CD32 is no more than 29 characters, including the dot and extension.Specifically, the files in question are: Music Cinematic Sci-fi Beat.iff, Music FutureWorld_Press On Loop.iff and Music HEROES - The Maverick - C.iff.

Project Horizon has been in development for several years now. While we didn't anticipate such a long journey—and life often threw unexpected challenges our way—we never lost sight of the goal. I am thrilled to announce that the wait is finally over. The game is currently in its final testing phase, and the full version will be available for download within the coming days.
I guess you have been busy with other projects...but I'm also hoping you would get back on this one. It's a great game!

2 Player Mode and Saveoption pleace ! This makes it legendary like Alien Breed.
This one is just for testing the engine-features by mocking up an Aliens themed game. It's ended up pretty cool, so we have to show you all.... :)

-The gfx of the main character is not relatead in any way to or game Project Horizon (or Electric Black sheep). It is ripped out from the game Xeno Crisis and it is a property of Bitmap Bureau.
- 'Aliens' and the Xenomorphs are the property of 20th Century Studios.

Pros: Visually it looks terrific, and Commando on the moon with weapon pickups? Ho, yus!
Cons: too few enemies, and the ones we have are bullet sponges that are dull to fight. Have more enemies, that need fewer bullets to kill. Make it more like, well, Commando

We have to be very careful not to stuff a lot of enemy into one place. On this platform (sadly) it can cause performance issues! In Commando the enemies were very "simple"-minded without any minimalist AI, the movement of the player was faster, not a lot of feature (or guns) but overall enjoyable!
Imagine if a game staged on the moon is runing on the same rate. It will probably kill the atmosphere. (Not the Moons atmosphere.) :) I loved games like Commando or Alien Breed or Chaos Engine but each one of them had a unique approach of gameplay.
In our case: "THIS IS THE WAY"
Probably the biggest feature of the game is, that it will contain a level editor and the full source code. I encourage everyone who want to make a little shooter game (for the amiga) that you can try it out. If you want you can add more enemies, change the gfx to a medieval environment (or the characters, weapons, sfx, ...) and hopefully share it with others.
In addition, the minimal AI is necessary because of the 8 directions and the terrain. Commando is good but scrolls in one direction. Enemies do not follow you or watch collision of each other. The 8 direction of control over 3 enemies results a visible slowdown on a stock machine (as we have tried to prepare the engine for many things). Enemie features:
-follow (up to shooting distance or punch distance)
-saves his position (if I go back you will be there)
-watches the terrain, trying to avoid objects/walls
-surround you instead of settling in one place / line up in row
-looks for a new position if he missing the shoot
-walk away or escapes if hit by bullet.
-have the ability to hit, shoot, throw grenades, some can even summon help ;)
-terrain can also be destroyed by the enemy
-the two camps can shoot each other.
-NPC follows you/ helps as above
...and all that is just for the emenies, but there are other items, sound/music, bullets, anims, HUD, Camera, player, npc, weapons, MAP and and try to handle 255 MAPevent in every single frame for the player and for the enemies and still remain at playabe speed.
A stock amiga is not a power plant and all that we program in BASIC... what we learn almost as we write.

The hdd and adf executable is the same. If I have to tip... my suspect is in the libs... coud be powerpacker. or amos.library? Please copy the game/libs content to dh0:libs and try run.
